Welcome to North Perth Westfield Elementary School.  Westfield is the newest school in the Avon Maitland District School Board opening in September 2016.  We are a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located in the growing community of Listowel, Ontario.   It is with great pleasure and an honour to serve you as the principal of Westfield this year. I look forward to working alongside the community.  I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich legacy of success and so many points of pride since the opening year.

With close to 750 students in JK to Grade 8, and 60 enthusiastic, caring and dedicated staff members, we share our Warrior pride in hard work and student achievement each and every day. The school now hosts 7 portables as we affectionally call them the "Westfield Cottages".

We will continue to our school focused on student learning and cultivating character. In the past,  our students leraned about social responsibility and the HOAP process (honesty, ownership, apology and plan) to work through many courageous moments. We are also excited to be bringing CHAMPs to our school. CHAMPS behavior is a very important part of our school to enable students to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and readiness. This is a model for what we expect our students to look and sound like at school during the day. Each letter stands for something that will help your child understand how to be a CHAMP.

C = Conversation  Can students talk to each other during the activity?
H = Help How do students get questions answered during the activity?
A = Activity  What is the task and the objective?
M = Movement  Can students move during the activity?
P = Participation  What does the behavior look and sound like?
S = Success for Everyone!
By using effective management practices, teachers can help every student feel and behave like a champion.

As well, this year our school will become a "Best Buddies' school creating an inclusive, safe and supportive community where we all grow and learn.  We believe our job as educators is not just to create great students, but to build great citizens.  As we continue to get to know one another this year, I am positioning a joyful, collegial invitation to incorporate our whole powerful selves into teaching where we may invite students to engage and learn with their whole powerful selves. As a most beautiful bonus, this invitation comes with guidance in meaningful, transformative ways committed to taking an active role toward the diverse, equitable and inclusive school the children deserve.

Our School Council has embarked on a significant fundraising projects and were able to enhance and enrich our school and the students learning community. With the support of our community, these fundraising efforts -  included provided sensory paths within the school, expanding the playground structures, added an outdoor learning center that has Indigenous learning as it's focal point, planted native plants, trees and shrubs supporting our work in reconciliation and growing in our learning as stewards of our land. Many more initiatives are planned this upcoming year, so all are encouraged to come to the monthly school council meetings.

You can keep updated with what is happening at the school through our Facebook and Instagram page, found at North Perth Westfield Elementary School and at the very bottom of this website.
